Presbyopia

Definition of Presbyopia:

       It is an impairment of near work due to advanced aging caused by a decrease in the accommodation power of the crystalline lens.

 

 Causes of Presbyopia:

In advanced age, there is a decrease in the accommodation power of the lens due to the loss of elasticity of the crystalline lens it is not a refractive error but a physiological change in the elasticity of the lens.

Symptoms of Presbyopia:

  • Difficulty in near work such as reading small prints and threading a needle etc.
  • Asthenopic symptoms occur due to fatigue of ciliary muscles
Treatment of Presbyopia:

It is treated by convex lens.
