CATARACT AND ITS CAUSES AND SURGERY OF CATARACT?

DEFINITION OF CATARACT

 A cataract is an eye condition where the natural lens of the eye found behind the iris and pupil becomes cloudy. This cloudiness causes a reduction, in vision. Can eventually lead to blindness if not treated. Cataracts generally develop gradually over time. Are often associated with aging although they can also affect individuals.

SIGNS OF CATARACT;

Some common signs of cataracts include;

1. Blurry or unclear vision; When the lens becomes cloudy it can affect how sharp and clear images appear.

2. Increased sensitivity, to lights; People with cataracts may struggle with seeing when exposed to sunlight or when encountering headlights while driving at night.

3. Challenges with seeing in low light conditions; Vision difficulties may worsen in environments with lighting.

4. Colors; Colors may not appear as vibrant or vivid as they used to.

5. Vision in one eye; This can happen if the cataract affects one eye.

6. Frequent changes in eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions; As the cataract progresses vision may fluctuate, requiring adjustments, to lenses.

CAUSES OF CATARACT;

Cataracts primarily affect individuals although they can arise due, to factors. The main reason behind cataract development is the aging process of the eye. As we grow older the proteins in the lens of our eye can clump together. Become opaque resulting in the formation of a cataract. This type of cataract is commonly referred to as age-related cataracts. However, it's worth noting that cataracts can also occur in people and have causes, including;

1. Eye Injuries; Sustaining an injury to the eye, such as an impact can cause damage to the lens and lead to cataract formation.

2. Congenital Factors; Some individuals are born with cataracts. Develop them during childhood due to reasons or infections during pregnancy.

3. Conditions; Certain medical conditions like diabetes can increase one's susceptibility to developing cataracts.

4. Medications; The prolonged use of corticosteroids may raise the chances of developing cataracts.

5. Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation; Extended exposure to UV radiation from sunlight without eye protection can contribute to the development of cataracts.

6. Smoking and Alcohol Consumption: smoking or excessive alcohol consumption are considered risk factors for developing cataracts.

It's important to note that while age remains the factor, other causes should be considered for cataract occurrence.

TREATMENT OF CATARACT;

Cataracts are usually identified during an eye checkup conducted by an eye doctor or optometrist. Once diagnosed the recommended solution, for cataracts involves undergoing surgery to remove the hazy lens and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Cataract surgery is considered a successful procedure that frequently results in an enhancement of vision.
