What is the difference between Hypertensive retinopathy and Diabetic retinopathy?
Diabetic retinopathy
Pathogenesis
- Precapillary arterioles
- Capillary
- Venules
The microangiopathy has following;
- Capillaries leakage
- Capillaries occlusion
Symptoms
- Impairment of vision
- early-stage asymptomatic
- Involvement of macula causes
gradual loss of vision
- Sudden loss of vision due to
vitreous hemorrhages
Signs
- Background of Diabetic
retinopathy
- Pre-Proliferative Diabetic
retinopathy
- Proliferative Diabetic
retinopathy
- Diabetic maculopathy

Hypertensive retinopathy Pathogenesis - Vasoconstriction narrowing of arterioles
- Increase in vascular permeability
- Arteriosclerotic changes ( thicking of vessel walls)
Symptoms- Hypertension is asymptomatic
